Maybe this can be used for the basis of a game. How about a starship tactical combat simulator?

If not, it's still a pretty cool background. The pattern doesn't seem to significantly detract from the readability of the text.

Another neat thing to do would be to make the grid lines appear as a spectrum, as if they were holes and behind the black was a rainbow. Your graphics program would need to support layers to do something like this.

Here's another idea. Make the background image a GIF, JIF, or PNG file with the grid lines transparent. Use JavaScipt to cycle the background color through the spectrum of colors. This should produce an interesting effect.
